A Junior Ranger is 6-12 years old and:

  • Promises to help keep campsites, parks, rivers, beaches and trails clean.
  • Respects the rights and property of others.
  • Teaches others to conserve and wisely use natural and cultural resources.
  • Helps people work to protect natural resources.
  • Learns the park rules and follows them.

So what does all this mean to you? There are many ways to have fun in Oregon's state parks!

When you sign up to be a Junior Ranger, you get a little book called a Passport. The Passport has pages with boxes drawn on them, and each box has the name of a special fun adventure you can do at the park:

  • Discover a park secret
  • Recycle
  • Attend a park program to learn about the environment
  • Find and name three special plants or animals
  • Keep your part of the park clean
  • Learn how to be safe in the park (and on the beach, if you're visiting the coast).

Hi JR BeaverAfter you complete an adventure, we'll stamp that box in your Passport. After you get four different stamps, show your Passport to a someone who works at the park and we'll give you a Junior Ranger badge and show you the secret Junior Ranger greeting (you have to promise only to share the greeting with other Junior Rangers!)

When you fill a second Passport page with stamps on your next camping trip, we'll give you a Junior Ranger pencil and a decal.

On your third camping trip, fill your last Passport page with stamps. Show it to someone who works in the park to get a really cool Junior Ranger patch and a special message signed by J.R. Beaver, the great big beaver guy who invented the Junior Ranger club.So how do you sign up for the program?
